Tabor Together Virtual Week

Tabor Together Virtual 2.0: At home and everywhere

June 14-17, 2021

Monday-Thursday between 6-8 PM

Greetings from Marion!

It’s springtime at the School by the Sea and time once again to reminisce, reunite, and reconnect, albeit virtually.

We hope you will join classmates and friends for Tabor Together Virtual 2.0, a week of live and prerecorded offerings, including back to class sessions, alumni presentations, discussions with current students, faculty, and school leadership, and, of course, for classes ending in 0s, 1s, 5s, and 6s.

All members of the alumni community are invited to attend one or more of the week’s many offerings meant to bring you closer to Tabor and one another. This menu of programs was curated specifically to engage the extended Tabor community across decades and in specific areas of interest.

On behalf of the entire Tabor school community, welcome home!

For Your Viewing and Listening Pleasure

We hope you enjoy a small sampling of videos highlighting Tabor and the Tabor alumni experience. Please check back often for additional online programming you can view at your leisure.

Watch Sippican Sunrises and Sunsets

Whether you live down the street or across the globe, here’s a chance to relive your time on the shores of Sippican Harbor. Tabor’s Nest Cam provides a lovely view of Sippican sunrises and South Coast sunsets. Wherever you find yourself, you’ll find Tabor!

Collecting History: Stories from the Tabor Academy Archives

Objects tell their own stories, and oftentimes they tell a tale far different and deeper than you might imagine at first glance. In Collecting History: Stories from the Tabor Academy Archives, librarian and archivist Sophie Arnfield explores the school’s long and rich history utilizing items from the Tabor Archives. As you will come to learn, an object is more than just an object. If you have a story you would like to share with Sophie or an item you’d like to donate to the archive, you can contact Sophie directly.

Remembering Alumni

The Tabor Academy community celebrates the lives and grieves the passing of alumni lost since their last milestone reunions in 2015 and 2016. Ian Conway ’95, Maija Scarpaci ’95 and Matthew Perrin '96 lead a non-denominational memorial service to remember those who are no longer with us, but who are forever in our hearts.

Songs from a Pandemic

Spencer Zahn ’06, a multi-instrumental jazz performer, released his third album, Sunday Painter, in the middle of a global pandemic. And its sound is hauntingly evocative of the time in which we find ourselves. A touring bassist and collaborator with artists like Kimbra, Empress Of, Dave Harrington, and Twin Shadow, this is Spencer’s first album as a bandleader. Although he couldn’t join us for a live performance, Spencer has graciously shared a video from Sunday Painter with his classmates and fellow Seawolves in this reunion cycle. If you enjoy the video, you can find the entire album at Cascine or bandcamp.

Tabor Boy: 100 Years at Sea

In Tabor Boy: 100 Years at Sea, John Rice ’71 explores the history of theSSV Tabor Boy sail-training program and celebrates the ship’s rich history, from its early use as a North Sea pilot schooner to its use today as an educational platform for teaching nautical and marine science. Filmed in heavy seas, the documentary follows the ocean journey of Tabor Boy from New England to the Virgin Islands as students and crew conduct research.

Madrigals Sing Tabor's Alma Mater

The Madrigals, led by choral music teacher Dr. Tianxu Zhou, celebrates reunion classes during Tabor Together Virtual 2.0 with a special performance of the school’s alma mater, Hail Dear Old Tabor.

Charting Your Course Podcast

During the height of the pandemic, current Tabor student, Colin O’Brien ’23, developed a podcast, Charting Your Course, in which he interviews successful alumni from a number of preparatory schools. His goal was to inspire other high school students to chart their future course.  Colin’s guests, including Tabor graduates Charlie Merrow '95 and Kate O’Neil '04, share life lessons, accumulated wisdom, and business acumen in these insightful and entertaining 30-minute interviews.

Tour Tabor's Campus

Fellow alumnus and director of alumni relations, Andrew McCain ’84 will take you on a guided tour of Tabor’s campus, exploring old haunts and new hangouts. If you haven’t been back to the School by the Sea in a while, you’ll be surprised by the changes to campus. All-A-Taut-O!
