As we turn the corner on the winter NEPSAC playoffs and exams, students and faculty alike are starting to think about March break. Thanks to our coaches, most of our spring teams are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy a spring training trip south to kick off their seasons.
Boys lacrosse will be heading to Orlando, Florida, to enjoy not only the nice weather, but awesome competition among other high school teams also in Orlando for spring training. Head coach RJ Swift ’08 said the value of this trip is allowing the athletes to focus solely on lacrosse as they prepare for the start of the season. While much of this trip is all about lacrosse, they also find time for fun spending an entire day at Universal Studios.
Girls’ and boys’ crew will travel to Clemson, South Carolina, during the second week of spring break. This is the third year our crew teams have been able to take advantage of this terrific opportunity. Head coach Noel Pardo specifically loves this location for the warmer weather, optimal water conditions, and the opportunity for our student-athletes to interact with and watch many college teams. Beyond that, the trip allows for the girls’ and boys’ crew to establish and develop strong relationships together as they support each other’s teams in the competitions, as well as in their many joint practices, yoga sessions, and team workouts.
Florida seems to be the preferred destination as boys’ baseball will head to Vero Beach, girls’ lacrosse will go to Clearwater, and lastly, the golf team will join the boys lacrosse team in Orlando. With our fields covered in snow, it seems south is the way to go.
We are so fortunate that our spring teams are able to partake in these opportunities. Our athletes benefit not only through conditioning and skill development, but also from the fun bonding experiences with friends they will treasure and remember forever.
