Albert “Bert” Nascimento was born in Cambridge, MA, but raised in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He returned to the United States at the age of 10, and eventually went on to attend Somerville High School for a year before transferring to Brooks School in North Andover, MA. While at Brooks he played both soccer and basketball. He co-captained the basketball team his senior year and finished the season earning the Andrew N. Navoni Sportsmanship Award. He spent his summers coaching and counseling kids in various sports and volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club and YMCA of Somerville, MA.
Bert went on to attend Middlebury College, graduating in 2014 with a degree in American Studies. He continued his basketball career at Middlebury, where he was named to the NESCAC winter All-Academic team three times. After graduation, Bert worked at the Salisbury School teaching English and Spanish, while also coaching varsity soccer and basketball. Furthermore, he was named the Co-Director of Multicultural Affairs, which further provided him the opportunity to enthusiastically and passionately bring diversity, equity and inclusion to campus. In his second year at Tabor, he is excited to take on the role of Co-Director of Equity and Inclusion.
As a student he experienced both the public and boarding school environment, and what drew Bert back to boarding school was the unique opportunity to connect with students both inside and outside the classroom. A quality that resembled what he experienced as a student at Brooks School. After three years in the Northwest corner of Connecticut, Bert has enjoyed his next chapter of his teaching career at Tabor. He will continue to teach English while also coaching soccer and basketball, and serving as a houseparent in Lillard. His passion is teaching, coaching, and creating everlasting connections with the many students on campus.
