Tabor’s mission would not be achievable without the dedication, passion, and support of its faculty and staff. In every role they play on campus—whether it be teacher or IT support specialist—the faculty and staff at the School by the Sea embody the school values to create and uphold a better Tabor community.
The recipients of the Seawolf Awards for the 2023-24 academic year—Duane Martin, JJ Reydel, Bethany Daniels, and Chris Gibbs—have been nominated by their colleagues for their tireless efforts in fostering a culture of care, collaboration, courage, and curiosity within the school community.
The Class of 2001 created an award upon their graduation to honor the memory of their friend Matthew Houlihan ’99. Awarded at the Moving Up Ceremony this year, Molly McCarthy was given the Matt Houlihan Faculty Award on behalf of the positive and lasting impact she continues to make at Tabor.
The Torch Award for Commitment to Professional Growth and Development recognizes a faculty member in the formative years of a career who, in the opinion of the nominating committee, has most demonstrably committed to cultivating the craft of teaching, especially in the boarding school environment. This year, Nicole Fernandes ’17 was recognized by colleagues as a torchbearer at Tabor. Her lifelong love of learning reflects the courage and curiosity needed to continually learn and evolve.
And lastly, as we bid farewell to retirees Chris Adams, John Heavey, and Wiley Wakeman '68, we reflect on their years of service and the profound influence they've had on countless students' lives. Their dedication exemplifies the very essence of care and mentorship. Every year students choose someone to dedicate the school yearbook, “Fore ‘N’ Aft,” to. Before they left campus, Seawolves recognized retirees Chris Adams, John Heavey, and Wiley Wakeman ’68 at the Moving Up Ceremony. The first few pages of the yearbook include words of appreciation from students and colleagues alongside photos highlighting the retirees’ Tabor careers.
To all our faculty and staff, past and present, thank you for embodying the spirit of Tabor, for serving as role models for both students and colleagues, and for your unwavering commitment to our School by the Sea. Your dedication makes Tabor truly "All-A-Taut-O!"
