Renewing Frienships

While the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have lessened on Tabor’s campus, one class in recent years is still dealing with the aftermath of lockdown restrictions.

In March 2020, seniors left campus for Spring Break with the expectation of returning for their “Senior Spring” and the myriad of traditional senior events that the end of the school year would bring. Unfortunately, the Class of 2020 missed all their milestone moments, such as award nights and dinners, Prom, Senior Week, and most notably, Commencement.

Fast forward two years later, on June 10, 2022, members of the Class of 2020 were invited back to Marion for a luncheon at Nick’s Lookout. Although it was different from an in-person Prom along the waterfront, or a Commencement under the tent, Tabor acknowledged the need for a formal celebration to honor the Class of 2020.

The reception began with warm hugs, handshakes, and giant smiles as students reconnected with their peers and faculty. The class of 2020 alumni marveled at how much the campus had changed, like the new paint on Lillard Hall, while reminiscing at the familiar. Head of School Tony Jaccaci, a new face for these students, welcomed and recognized the class for all they accomplished and all they have overcome in the past two years. Math and computer science teacher Matthew Voci, whom the class had voted as the 2020 Houlihan Faculty Award recipient, recalled the early days of the global pandemic and how difficult it was for teachers and students to be separated. Former Co-Head of School Jack LeBrun rounded out the speeches by keeping things light-hearted as he thanked his peers, faculty, and staff, especially the Dining Hall, for making this mini-reunion so special. The picturesque afternoon on Sippican Harbor ended with laughs and enduring class comradery.

It was a beautiful day to reunite and reflect with the Class of 2020. As always, “Seawolves show up!”
