Lydia Caputi '14 Takes the Reins for Girls Varsity Basketball
The Tabor Girls Varsity Basketball torch has passed to Lydia Caputi ’14, who steps into the role of Head Coach after serving two years as Assistant Coach.
Caputi is poised to take over from former Head Coach Will Becker saying, “I’m honored and grateful to Tabor, Tony Jaccaci, Kelly Walker, and Will Becker for trusting me with this incredible opportunity. I am excited to continue Tabor Girls Basketball’s tradition of excellence on and off the court!”
Head of School Tony Jaccaci echoes her excitement stating, “We are thrilled to have Lydia taking the reins of the Girls Basketball program. Will Becker has done an incredible job during his tenure and set the bar high for the program. I believe that Lydia has the skills, desire, and commitment to keep this program at the very highest levels in New England basketball. Additionally, Lydia is a terrific educator and principled role model for young women – they will learn so much from her.”
Caputi was a standout athlete at Tabor on the court, pitch, and turf. In basketball, soccer, and lacrosse, she was named All New England while also being named New England Player of the Year in soccer. After graduating from Tabor, she had a stellar career at Bowdoin College with a 97-20 record as player. She was a three-year starter, captain, went to four consecutive NCAA tournaments, and was a National Finalist in the NCAA tournament during the 2017-2018 season.
Caputi coached at three other schools before returning to her alma mater, beginning her coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Trinity College. In two years, the Bantams went 35-15, hosted their second NESCAC tournament game in school history, and developed players who were named both NESCAC Rookie of the Year and NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Caputi spent one year at Dartmouth as the Director of Basketball Operations before finding her way back to boarding schools, becoming the Girls Basketball Head Coach at Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut. While there, she also worked in college counseling, taught history, and served as a dorm parent. Caputi returned to Tabor in the fall of 2023 as Assistant Basketball coach and Associate Director of Admission. During her two years at Tabor, the team has amassed a record of 52-8, brought home an ISL Championship, claimed the NEPSAC AAA Player of the Year, and made it to the AAA semifinals both seasons.
Director of Athletics and Co-Curriculars Kelly Walker has been fortunate to know Caputi as both a player and a coach. She knows the program will be in good hands saying, “We are elated to have Lydia as our new head coach of Girls Varsity Basketball. Lydia is the ultimate role model—an accomplished athlete, a passionate leader, and a proud Tabor alum. Her deep connection to the program, paired with her collegiate playing and coaching experience and strong presence, makes her the perfect person to lead the next chapter of Tabor Girls Basketball. We can’t wait to see the energy, vision, and heart she’ll bring to the court!”
