Day of Service

Special Olympics athlete giving a Tabor student a high five
Day of Service

In honor of Tabor’s annual Day of Service, Tabor hosted the Special Olympics, also known as School Day Games, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. In addition to our student and faculty/staff volunteers, there were over 210 participating athletes from more than ten local schools.

The day kicked off with opening ceremonies, including the national anthem and readings of the volunteer, athlete, and coach oaths. From there, participants found their groups and gathered at the different activities across the Duffy Fields. Some of the popular games included volleyball, bag toss, and relay races.

After a morning of fun in the sun, the day continued with closing ceremonies and the ultimate high five tunnel for athletes to parade their medals through. At the end of the high five line, participants grabbed their lunch from student volunteers and ate it on the turf.

“This happens once a year, so this is our big event,” says Tabor Special Olympics Club Board member Joanne Huang ’23. “It breaks students out of their comfort zones and makes a conversation about inclusivity.”

While the games were in full swing on campus, ninth grade students ventured to Round the Bend Farm, a working farm and educational non-profit in Dartmouth that works with the community to explore nature’s impact. There, student helpers prepared the fields for the upcoming growing season. Great work Seawolves!
