A New Chapter Begins

Class of 2022 celebrating right before Commencement!
A New Chapter Begins

During the final weeks of the academic year, many events were hosted in celebration of Tabor Academy’s Class of 2022. To give accolades for all they have overcome and all they have accomplished, seniors were invited to department award gatherings, prom, Baccalaureate, and most importantly, Commencement.

On June 3, Tabor Academy graduated 137 students from around the world. The graduates hail from 16 states and 14 countries. Twenty-six were inducted into the Cum Laude Society, a recognition society for high scholastic achievement among member schools; and 15 received Naval Honors, awarded to students who have successfully achieved experience and competence in Tabor’s Nautical Science curriculum, as well as demonstrated leadership and/or academic proficiency. The following award recipients were also announced at commencement: Cooper Manzi, Cassidy Yeomans, Jayden Smith, Dylan Jones, Olivia Justice, Catherine Terelak, Piper McKerrow, Hailey Cohen, Emma Lee, Chika Oyigbo, Ka Ho “John” Ho, Brooke Ingemi, and My Linh Duong. You can read more about all the 2022 awards and their recipients here.

Many of Tabor’s graduates invited family and friends to campus to partake in this momentous event. However, for those who were not able to travel to the School by the Sea, livestreaming video was shared on Tabor’s website. There were supporters cheering the seniors from around the world!

The program included student musical performances as well as speeches from the student Co-Heads of School, Olivia Justice and Percy Ackerman, Faculty Ian Patrick ’84 P’13, ‘13, Head of School Tony Jaccaci P’23, and Chair of the Board of Trustees Regina Shakin P’15, ’17, ’19. Olivia gave a heart-wrenching tribute to the victims of the Robb Elementary School and reminded us of the power and privilege of education. Percy left us laughing in his speech about purpose, sharing his experience with Tabor’s THL hockey community. Lastly, Coach Patrick poignantly remarked, “Failure is nothing to fear, you are the author of your story.”

After the speech portion of Commencement, the Class of 2022 crossed the stage to receive their diplomas. At the conclusion, the students threw their programs up in the air in triumph. The Class of 2022 had processed into the tent as students and recessed out of the tent alumni. After the ceremony, graduates and their families enjoyed refreshments, shared hugs, and took photographs to commemorate this milestone achievement. Despite the rain, there was lots of celebrating, laughter, and sentimental tears!

Class of 2022, we wish you the best of luck as you prepare for the future and pursue your dreams. Once a Seawolf, always a Seawolf.
