This week, Tabor Academy opened its doors to welcome 536 Seawolves back for a full in-person school year.
The student body hails from 20 states and 20 countries, but is finally together in one place after our hybrid year in 2020-2021.
The Student Life Office planned orientation events for all grades as well as fun activities for the weekends, utilizing our beautiful setting here on campus as well as our surrounding communities. Ninth graders headed to Silvershell Beach, while other grades enjoyed activities here on campus. In the evenings, dorms and day students took part in activities ranging from volleyball games to arts and crafts. Students also had a chance to participate in the Activities Fair where they could sign up for clubs and activities they may be interested in or sign up to start a new club.
Wednesday, September 8, marked the students' first official day of classes and first All School Meeting that evening. Thursday brought with it formal dress and the first official Chapel of the year, with a talk given by Head of School Tony Jaccaci.
Also starting this weekend is our first Saturday School Day, an opportunity for community-building events and activities. Later in the day, students will gather on the Labyrinth for Tabor's annual 9/11 Commemoration service in the evening. We will be holding in our hearts the alumni, parents, faculty and staff who were immediately affected, and continuing our efforts to make sense of our nation’s tragedy. Then on Sunday, the Seawolves are heading to Water Wizz in Wareham, MA for a day of fun! The start the school has been exciting, and it has been wonderful to see everyone back together in one place.
Join us on Monday, September 20 at 8:00 PM EST for an informative and entertaining Zoom session with Cindy Pierce, a social sexuality educator, speaker, comic storyteller, and author. Cindy is an engaging and skillful educator who has dedicated her professional life to helping parents support their kids to make healthier choices and navigate pressures online and off. Cindy will be speaking with our students over the next few weeks (Classes of '22 and '23 on 9/24 and classes of '24 and '25 on 10/8), and we are excited to offer this opportunity to you in advance of her visits. Please register by 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, September 18.
CoffeePond Photography will be on campus to take school photos on Tuesday, September 28.
The photo session in the Fish Center’s Field House will be a contact-less event. Photographers (all of whom have been vaccinated) will be masked at all times and will maintain a minimum distance of 8 feet from students. Students will wear a mask until seated for the photo and will need to adhere to physical distancing while in the building.
Students will be assigned a designated time to have their photo taken based on their academic schedule. Students should check their emails for their appointed time slot and additional details regarding COVID protocol as the photo session date approaches.
Students should be in formal dress attire as these photos will be used for the yearbook.
Planning for college, in general, begins early and one aspect that Tabor offers support with is...how to pay for it! While we do not begin 1:1 college counseling with your student until junior year, planning to pay for college begins much earlier.
If you have a college-bound 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grader (and you do!) and are interested in learning about how best to pay for college – and want to pay less – we are offering an important parent webinar with SMARTTRACK® College Funding on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00 PM. To register for this event, please use this link.
Note: this webinar is part of the complete package of SMARTTRACK® College Funding resources we provide for all our Tabor families. Learn why it’s so important for parents to be prepared for the college funding process, what services are included and how to access them.
