Covid Cabaret is Coming to a (home) Theater Near You!
Enjoy Tabor’s Winter Musical, Covid Cabaret, in the comfort of your own home! This Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 (at 7:30 PM EST on both evenings), tune into www.taboracademy.org/dramaproductions to watch this much anticipated show.
In November 2020, a cast and crew of 40 in-person and remote students began work on this year’s musical—a revue of 14 songs from different musicals, with the theme of “coming together.”. While Tabor was fully remote in December and January, students met individually and in small groups with various faculty advisors — Tian Zhou to learn music, and Jesse Hawley to work on interpretation and staging. Meanwhile, a group of local students in the tech crew worked with Richard “Van” VanVoris and Tim Wojcik to build a small but flexible set on Hoyt stage.
After the majority of students returned to campus in early February, rehearsals focused on staging the show’s two large dance numbers with Choreographer Janine Hart, and working with our student lighting designer and costume design team to bring the stage to life. Both remote and in-person cast members recorded their vocal tracks, which were then mixed by Dr. Zhou for them to lip-sync to as they performed their songs—either filmed live on Hoyt stage, or remotely. Finally, all the performances have been edited together into a video which will be presented on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. Both performances begin at 7:30 PM and can be seen on www.taboracademy.org/dramaproductions. If you miss these evening performances, the video will be available online, for you to view at your convenience, as well.
Given the pandemic, Tabor is hosting an ACT for its own students, primarily juniors. These students register through MyACT with a specific code shared by the College Counseling Office. Registration deadline is March 12 (March 13-26: late fee required).
