Fall Drama I: Tragedy, A Tragedy

For the first fall production of 2020, our drama team is making a movie! The show, Tragedy, A Tragedy, by Will Eno, is directed by Drama teacher Jesse Hawley and English teacher Julia Porter. On the technical end, Physics teacher Tim Wojcik has learned how to edit video of individual performances, so students can stay socially distant while performing.

Tragedy, a Tragedy is presented as a nightly local news broadcast. On the night the play takes place, the cast of characters reports on an event so concerning that live emergency coverage continues late into the night. The emergency: The sun has gone down. News anchors, reporters in the field, and legal experts push on through the night, as nothing continues to happen—except the news team itself losing its grip on reality. Will the sun ever come up again? What is important? What is even true? When the world may be falling apart, how do we communicate?

The cast and crew have had a lot of fun creating a film studio on campus, complete with green screens, film slates, and bright lights right on Hoyt stage. The production will have three screenings at Tabor for faculty and students (as well as online for a broader audience) on Friday (11/6) and Saturday (11/7) nights, and Sunday morning (11/8). Visit the drama webpage for times and more info!

The student cast consists of Aliyah Jordan ’23, Eva Elger ’21, Pesto Sia ’23, Anna Ambarik ’24, Olivia Hanley ’22, Renni Collins ’21, Logan Lowder ’21, Grace Murphy ’21, and Steve Guo ’21. The Stage Manager is Mary Townsend ’22.
