Get to Know the 9th Grade Class Dean

Q: Hello Mrs. Walker, can you introduce yourself?
A: My name is Mrs. Walker and I am the 9th-grade class dean. I also teach Spanish 2, coach JV field hockey, and girls' varsity tennis. Besides those roles, I also serve on the Student Life Task Force of the Diversity Leadership Council.

Q: What does a class dean do?
A: My job as your class dean is to help you all have the best 9th-grade year possible! I am here to answer questions, help you with anything that you find challenging, and support your growth as a member of the Tabor community. My door is always open to students, and I am very much looking forward to meeting each of you in person in August.

Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
A: I have been at Tabor for coming up on 34 years - the only place I have worked since I graduated from college. Can you tell how much I love it here? At Tabor, I have worked in the Advancement Office, Admissions Office, Athletic Office, the Dean's Office, as well as a Spanish teacher. In my time here I have coached JV field hockey, JV tennis, basketball, 3rds and JV girls ice hockey, varsity tennis and varsity field hockey. I lived in Lillard, Pond House (no longer owned by the school), Williams, and Pokoik during my first 14 years of living on campus. I now live off-campus with my husband, our rescue dog Tucker and our three children - when they are home. My two older children and my sister are all Tabor graduates. I love to travel, spend time with my family, run, play tennis, hike, cook, fly fish, garden, and read.

Q: What is your favorite dining hall meal?
A: I love the fact that our dining hall has so many options and we are so fortunate that they do an awesome job! I love their wood-fired pizza and all the options at the salad bar. But the best has to be either the holiday breakfast or the month of February when we have our various international student groups cook for us - it's amazing!

Q: Any fun facts you want to share?
A: When I started working at Tabor, Mr. Houck, Mr. Hurd, and Mr. Sughrue all started the same year.
I have been lucky enough to chaperone a trip on the Tabor Boy in the Caribbean once - definitely a highlight for me!

I have been lucky to coach and know so many amazing athletes that have come through Tabor. I was thrilled to watch former Seawolf Colleen Coyne win an Olympic gold medal with the US Women's Hockey team. More recently we were fortunate to watch Sammy Davis as she was selected with the #1 draft pick in the WNHL!

Thank you to Mrs. Walker for joining us!
