The Road Ahead

Our Fall 2020 Reopening Task Force, consisting of faculty and school leadership, has been hard at work developing a plan for the safe return of our students, and a safe re-opening of the Tabor Academy campus.

We are pleased with the efforts that our faculty, staff, and students made as they jumped right into online learning, but we know that nothing can replicate the Tabor Experience that is being on campus. To that end, our task force has been developing and will continue to develop, ways to bring our community together on campus once again. Sure it may look different in the current climate, as we adhere to CDC and State guidelines, but we believe being on campus is the best school experience for our students. Of course, our first priority is the health and safety of our community.

On Monday, Acting Head of School Julie Salit shared a message to parents with the plans to re-open our campus in late August. Please read the letter here. It should be noted that these plans are subject to change as new information or developments arise.

At the moment, Tabor is planning to open for on-campus learning on August 29 with students arriving in small groups. The fall trimester will run through November 20. We will move off-campus from Thanksgiving Break through January 5, 2021. Our faculty will teach remotely between Thanksgiving and Winter Break, with enhanced online assessments and grading practices. We will live and learn on-campus again from January 5 until our March break, though those dates will be determined as we gain a better understanding of how much time we will be together on campus should there be any interruption in our learning.

As part of the plan, Tabor will remain in contact with our families and give updates throughout the summer. We are optimistic that we will welcome our new and returning Seawolves to the shores of Sippican Harbor in late August! See you then!
