Mamma Mia!

This year, the Winter Musical is Mamma Mia! An upbeat musical with great music and lots of fun dancing will be just what the doctor ordered to chase away the winter blues come February.  The show will go up in just a month, on February 13-15, coinciding with Winter Family Weekend. It is free and open to the public with open seating.

Mamma Mia! uses the music of Swedish pop supergroup Abba to tell the story of a single mother and former singer (Donna) who runs a hotel on a Greek island, where her daughter (Sophie) is soon to be married. Unbeknownst to Donna, Sophie has been searching for her father and has invited three possible candidates to the wedding. Singing, dancing, and intrigue ensue!

The show offers lots of opportunities for both boys and girls, and we have found plenty of talent to fill the six main roles. Amelia Rolighed ‘21 and Mia Vaughn ‘20 will star as mother and daughter, Donna and Sophie, while Jack LeBrun ‘20, Adam Mendes ‘20 and Brian Nam ‘20 will fight it out as the dads. Andrew Mottur ‘19 plays Sophie’s fiance, and Emma Quirk ‘20 and Sydney DaSilva ‘19 play Donna’s former bandmates and comedic sidekicks. In all, there are 30 cast members and 15 on the stage and costume crew. Kimberlee Williams, faculty coach of the Tabor Dance Team, will be choreographing the dance numbers and guiding many of her talented dancers who have joined the cast. Choral teacher Dr. Tian Zhou is the musical director and will conduct the live orchestra for performances. Drama teacher Jesse Hawley is directing the show.

The tech team is led by Susan Kistler and Richard "Van" VanVoris, who are working with students on set, costume and lighting design. Our student photopool and our graphic design teacher, Kate Angell, are working together on promotions. Our parent volunteers are working on producing a professional Playbill keepsake including ads and sponsorship opportunities to help offset some of the costs of the show. All in all, this is a collaborative effort that reaches many parts of school life.

It all comes together in the end as a great celebration of Tabor’s talented community. Save the date and don’t miss the show on February 13-15 at 7:30 PM in the Fireman Center for the Performing Arts.
