Announcing our MLK Day Speaker

Christian Picciolini, an Emmy award-winning television producer, public speaker, and peace advocate will be our speaker for our Martin Luther King Day Program this year. A former skinhead, Picciolini will speak with our students about how he turned away from hate and devoted his life to becoming an outspoken anti-hate activist, speaking against the culture of hatred and violence that exists across the world and is used by criminal networks to divide people and nations.  https://www.christianpicciolini.com/

Christian is the founder Free Radicals Project, the first global network of extremism preventionists who work to help people disengage from hate movements and other violence-based ideologies around the globe. He premiered a documentary series, “Breaking Hate,” on MSNBC in August 2018 and has personally helped hundreds of people from all backgrounds and walks of life to disengage from violent extremism around the world.

A sought after speaker, Picciolini has been a featured pundit on news outlets such as MSNBC, CBS 60 Minutes, Face the Nation, CNN, NPR, as someone who can unpack the psychology of the white power movement. He has also spoken at national and international events throughout U.S. government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of State to the Geneva Peace Talk at United Nations Geneva, Switzerland, and the Summit Against Violent Extremism, Dublin, Ireland.

Picciolini will share his personal story of descending into the early American white supremacist movement as a young teenager and insight into how these movements work today to distort the views of vulnerable individuals through fear while drawing them into their networks by creating a sense of belonging. At last, he will recount how he was able to extricate himself and seek redemption through reforming his life by helping others escape, denouncing violence and extremism, and contributing to the greater good.

Picciolini will speak in January as the featured speaker for our 2020 Martin Luther King Day celebration. His talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the faculty and students.
