A Place to Reflect

Between the dining hall and the sailing dock, on the waterside of Lillard Hall, is a new installation. A peaceful place to reflect, to catch one’s breath and enjoy the elements at our School by the Sea

A beautiful terrace has been constructed and landscaped in an area that was underutilized and certainly not living up to its potential. The area now has the possibility of being a soothing gathering place in the midst or at the end of a busy day. It may even be a place for a themed dance, or an evening activity, taking advantage of the amazing view of the harbor and the electronic fire pits for atmosphere and warmth.

This terrace is given in memory of a special Seawolf, Nick Veronesi ’13, by his family and friends. One friend remembers Nick as someone who regularly sought out places of peace and tranquility to gather his thoughts and clear his mind from a stressful day or take a few extra moments to revel in fond memories. He also loved the company of others and being surrounded by close friends. This space gives our community access to both; a place to reflect or to gather with friends. It is a space with all the attributes Nick would have been drawn to; warmth, the sun, sea breeze, wide-open views (he was an enthusiastic crew of Tabor Boy), as well as friends and good conversation.

Nick left us way too early, just as he was establishing his relationship as an active alumnus making efforts to maintain his connections to Tabor. In this space, as we build our connections to each other and to this place, we can remember Nick who knew so well the importance of such a basic foundation.

Enjoy the space and as you look out, remember all that is beautiful and good about life. Remember what you love about Tabor. Through those simple meditations, you will honor our fellow Seawolf, Nick Veronesi.

Sharing this story with you on Thanksgiving is no accident. We are thankful for this gift, thankful to have known Nick and to be able to remember him in this place, and thankful for the incredible community that is Tabor Academy.
