Everyone Loves Seawolf Seminars

Our most popular Saturday School Day is making an early appearance this year. Last year, we held Seawolf Seminars in the spring to high acclaim. Because it proved to be such a fun and novel way to meet other people with similar interests, we moved it up to the fall so we could continue building new relationships and ties across campus. Seawolf Seminars 2019 will kick off on October 5.

The line up of faculty seminars remains as inventive as ever, with faculty sharing their passions, interests, joys, and concerns with students. In all, there are over 35 topics to explore. Students are asked to sign up for their top 5 with hopes to assign everyone into something that resonates with them.

As you might expect, the list spans the educational spectrum from wellness activities (yoga and walking tours) to more animated activities (from Ninja Warrior to tap dancing). There are sessions about life-lessons and philosophies (from auto maintenance to learning about Stoicism), pure fun with games (backgammon to pickleball), fun at sea (sailing to paddleboarding) and of course cooking (Pad Tai to BBQ). There are seminars for athletes and musicians as well as some more academic topics, like “Liar, Lair: Fact-Check the Internet: Life skill for the modern age.” “Embracing Boredom,” is another title, useful for any person and designed to reintroduce non-device ways to entertain the mind from contemplation to getting outside to enjoying literature and conversation among friends. Finally, there are some career-oriented topics such as “Intro to Athletic Training” and “Start-Up Saturday and Entrepreneurial Thinking.”

Every one of the seminars will no doubt provide something new to learn, something new to talk about, and something to share together in the future. Whatever seminar our students engage in, we hope it may launch a new interest and/or generate some new relationships for our students.

We are grateful for the creativity of our faculty, and for their time in devising such engaging options for our students. We are all looking forward to a great Saturday School Day on October 5!

And, don’t forget all the fun in store for Tabor Day starting just after. It’s going to be a great day to be a Seawolf!

  • Join the Coastal Clean-up!

The Tabor community continues to uphold its commitment to ocean stewardship by participating in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Clean-up.

On September 21st, thirteen students gave over three hours of their Saturday morning working with others to prevent coastal pollution from becoming ocean pollution at Fort Phoenix Park.  The 110 volunteers that day picked up over 290 pounds of trash and three pounds of recyclable materials!

If you would like to be part of Tabor’s continued work to reduce ocean pollution, please join us on Sunday, October 27 from 11 AM to 1 PM at West Island Town Beach in Fairhaven.  We will be collecting and cataloging what we pick up to help inform the research of the Ocean Conservancy.

Contact faculty member Tamar Cunha for more information.
