A Great Weekend Ahead

The 2019-2020 school year has kicked off with some awesome opportunities for the student body. The Student Life Office has planned orientation for all grades as well as fun activities for the weekend ahead, utilizing our beautiful setting here on campus as well as our surrounding communities.
On Wednesday September 4th, the students embarked on the first official day of classes. The first objective of the day was to meet with advisors, building that relationship immediately. Then students engaged in a day of mini classes to get to know their teachers, classmates, and find their way around campus for those new to Tabor.
Wednesday afternoon the respective grades took off to different locations. The freshmen enjoyed a nice afternoon at Silvershell Beach in Marion playing games, swimming, and just hanging out together at last as a class. Sophomores took on Seekonk Grand Prix, a complex equipped with a go-cart course, arcade, mini-golf, and ice cream. Juniors went to Starland Sports Complex to partake in numerous activities, some team building exercises as well as pure fun! Lastly, our seniors enjoyed a trip to Newport to enjoy the waterfront shops, walk the Cliff Walk, get dinner, and enjoy time together.
Today and Friday are regular class days, providing the start to a normal routine at last! After a full day of classes on Friday, the fun kicks off again! Immediately following dinner, the students will be able to head over to an Activities Fair where they can sign up for clubs and activities they may be interested in or sign up to start a new club. For quite some time, the first Friday night has been one everyone looks forward to, especially the seniors. The Hypnotist is back to put on the annual start of the year show where only seniors will be able to take the stage to be hypnotized. This year, Anthony Zonfrelli ’10 will be opening up for the hypnotist with a 30 minute comedy skit. After the entertainment, the students will enjoy an ice cream social in the Hoyt Lobby.
Saturday, we will be hosting a Welcome Back Party on the waterfront from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM with live music and food trucks for dinner. There will be yard games as well as volleyball and kickball available. Around dusk, we will move the fun inside for some more live music in the Beebe, open skate in the rink, video games in the squash courts, and a movie projected in the field house!
After a sleep in and some rest, Sunday brings us the annual Seawolf Games from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The students will split into teams by dorms and day student houses and compete in a number of competitions only to await for the crowning of the champion at the end of the afternoon. The Flour Girls dessert truck will be at the closing ceremonies to provide delicious cookies for all the competitors!
The Student Life Office has worked diligently to plan these events emphasizing the importance of bonding opportunities to help create meaningful relationships early in the year. We are so excited to finally have our full community together and we are looking forward to a fun year together.
