Sprucing Up Campus!

When students and faculty return to campus they may notice things looking pretty fresh around here! In their absences, our Facilities and Housekeeping Staff have been hard at work to make our beautiful campus shine.

On top of completing Cornelia Hall in time for four faculty families to move in and get settled before students arrive, fourteen other faculty apartments have been renovated or updated for faculty families. Faculty housing is an important priority at Tabor as it is the backbone of our learning/living community. In all, 78 faculty live on campus.

The advancement and communications staff were also on the move. With the opening of Cornelia Hall, Daggett House was remodeled into a great new home for our Office of Advancement. Communications moved into their old location, freeing up a large space in the library to allow for a new classroom.

Beyond faculty apartments and offices, student dorm rooms in Lillard South, East and North 2 have been freshened up with new paint and carpet. Ten dorms received new roofs to keep us warm and dry, as well as two faculty residences, the Academic Center, and the Admissions building. Most dorms, as well as Wickenden Chapel, the MakerLab, and the Braitmayer Art Center received exterior paint and repair to sills and windows as needed. Fifty new mattresses were rotated into service in the dorms, an annual event.

Our common spaces and play spaces also received some attention. The Beebe Grill will have beautiful new flooring for the coming school year, as well as a new paint job; the Great Room floors were refinished as well, and the Academic Center floors will be polished to a shine very soon. Students will appreciate the newly resurfaced tennis courts and the freshly painted squash courts. There will be new blinds in the language wing classrooms and new furniture in several classrooms. Artists working in the studio art classroom will appreciate the new sink and countertops installed to help keep their supplies clean and tidy.  All in all, things are looking great all across campus!

Finally, we are hopeful that the second stage of our campus signage project will be completed before the start of school. After our wayfinding signs were installed last fall, we moved into the production stage of the many building signs that need replacement. Those should be installed in the coming weeks, matching the new signage across campus.

With new faculty orientation beginning this week, and the full faculty returning the week after for planning meetings before preseason, we are working at full strength across all departments as opening day approaches. From our facilities department staff to the kitchen, office, and tech workers to our faculty, everyone is working to be sure everything here at Tabor is ready to support a fantastic year ahead!
