Immersive Travel Opportunities

In honor of Tabor’s first Japan graduate, Shosuke Idemitsu ’52, Tabor Academy sponsors a Tabor student to attend the CIEE “Global Navigator – Japan Language & Pop Culture” program each summer. The CIEE Global Navigator Kyoto: Japanese Language and Culture program runs from June 14th-July 11th. This year, Eddie Santos ’20, from New York, applied for the annual Tabor scholarship for this month-long experience that covers the full cost of attendance. It is quite an honor to be selected. Eddie was fourth Idemitsu Scholar and he will earn 4 college credits toward his future degree.

During this immersive program based in Kyoto, Eddy joined 40 other students from around the world to learn about Japanese language and culture, visit schools, and enjoy a home stay for several days. He enjoyed over 60 hours of language instruction, and traveled around the area to visit the capital, shrines, temples and zen gardens, as well as visit markets, restaurants and cafes. Two other Tabor students, Amber Harris ’20 and Nina Sasakawa ’20 participated a similar experiences in Madrid, Spain, through CIEE.

The opportunity to study abroad is a fantastic growth opportunity and we are excited to see our students take advantage of their time away from Tabor to enrich their life experience and continue to learn. We look forward to them sharing their new insights and experiences with us when they return in September.

Eddie Santos ’20, Nina Sasakawa ’20, and Amber Harris ’20 are pictured within this group of international friends at Tabor when they were making Asian-style dumplings in their teacher’s home for a themed-dinner last winter.
