Cat Barry '20 is Gatorade MA Soccer Player of the Year
Cat, a rising senior and a Captain of the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team, was named the Gatorade Massachusetts Girls Soccer Player of the Year, Tabor’s first such honoree.
The award recognizes “outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.” She is now a finalist for their national player of the year award. Cat is a three-sport athlete at Tabor, also playing varsity basketball and lacrosse.
Cat led Tabor to a 15-2-2 record this past fall and to the Class B Tournament Championship. She scored 33 goals and had 12 assists. In the championship game, which was won by a shoot-out 4-3 versus Thayer Academy, Cat scored the goal to tie the game in the last remaining seconds while also scoring one of the shoot-out goals. She was selected by our league as the ISL Offensive Player of the Year and is the United Soccer Coaches All-American selection. She is verbally committed to University of South Carolina.
Cat has been featured by Sports Illustrated as a Face in the Crowd athlete, as well as in the recent Sports Illustrated Kids issue.
At Tabor, Cat maintains a high academic average with a strong course load and participates as a Head Tour guide as well as volunteering as a peer tutor. Additionally, she volunteers with our Juntos service program in New Bedford to assist new immigrants to the city with English language learning.
We are proud to congratulate Cat on this achievement and recognition from Gatorade.
