Celebrating Reunion!

We enjoyed a picture perfect weekend on Sippican Harbor to welcome back our alumni from the classes ending in 4s and 9s. Beautiful fall-like weather, crisp and clear, welcomed about 500 people to campus as they set out to renew their ties to each other and to Tabor. It is always a highlight of the year!
We took advantage of the water, as is our custom, despite the fact that the Coast Guard removed our permit to use Tabor Boy for social excursions. She is strictly business now, but it did not stop us from going out in the launch to tour the harbor and take a circle around to see her. Other fun activities included a vigorous row in the early morning, yoga by the sea, kayaking and small boat sailing all afternoon. For those not as active, the view from the Adirondack chairs along the waterfront was a focal point of the weekend, and many enjoyed yard games such as Corn Hole. It was all pretty relaxing!
The curious among us enjoyed time with teachers: making in the Maker Lab with Dr. K; touring campus with Will Becker; glazing a decorative plate in the ceramics studio with Kevin Arnfield; discussing poetry with John Heavey; learning about Julie Salit’s Chapel Project to add more modern day visionaries to our chapel walls; learning about globalism with history teachers Rick DaSilva and Gary Sousa; and learning some lessons from Homer with John Quirk. David Pierce even shared a history of Tabor and her relationship with Marion with interested alumni. While Bob Jones ’55 and Pete Smith ’53 volunteered to shared their knowledge of the history of Marion Village and her famous past residents during a fun tour of our beautiful town. There was something for everyone!
The 50th Reunion class, 1969, enjoyed a special class dinner on Friday night where they could recollect their mischief and milestones together, while the rest of us enjoyed a casual night by the water with food trucks and firepits and a sunset to die for. On Saturday, the 50th class was inducted into the Admirals Society at a lovely luncheon, marking their transition to senior statesmen for Tabor! Another milestone at the younger end of the spectrum was the 5th Reunion’s first invitation back to campus to enjoy a grown up party with their faculty and friends. They led us in some great dancing to music by Downcity Band, keeping the party hopping right until the bell. It was a great time.
All and all, Reunion gives us the chance to remember what Tabor meant to us, but it is also a time to see the potential of our great school, and our school community. As the 5th Reunion Class shared their news of completed degrees, jobs in progress or on the horizon, their soul searching trips and creative endeavors, we glimpse the future. As our 50th Reunion Class shares their successes and achievements we can see lives of solid contribution, and now perhaps more time to devote to family, mentoring, volunteerism, travel or even a new chapter.
At all ages and stages, Tabor graduates take our mission into the world and work their magic in their communities, contributing their energy in so many varied ways. It is always exciting and energizing to be part of it, to build on it, and to share in our collective success together.
