Senior Projects in Progress

It is hard to believe, but we’ve already reached the half-way point in the senior project program.

Roaming around campus, one can see seniors making progress in boat restoration, tile making, choreography and tech design for shows in the Black Box theater, song writing, film making, statistical data research, and internships. The visions our students had in their minds as they wrote their applications and set out on their projects are hard realities now as the projects begin to take shape.

The common thread among all the projects is each student’s enthusiasm for their individual project. Whether they are building a pair of skis, interning with a dentist or making a film, they are invested in making the best possible use of their time so they will have something amazing and memorable to share with the Tabor community at the end of May.

Students are required to write weekly journal entries to keep the Senior Project Committee updated on their progress, as well as to help them keep track of their process, the highs and lows of their efforts, and most of all what they’re learning. As is typical, many students have commented that their projects are taking a lot more time and effort than they anticipated. That said, all are embracing the challenge. “I’m learning that there is a lot to learn!” said Sophie Browning, who is producing electronic dance music and learning to be a DJ. For Sophie, a student who has enjoyed math, marine science and technology at Tabor, this is a great foray into the arts.

Behind the scenes, the committee is planning for the morning of senior project presentations, as well as the many evening presentations required for performance or gallery projects. From Wednesday, May 15 – May 20 there is at least one evening presentation to for the community to enjoy. This is a major logistical feat to find a space and time for everyone who needs to present.

At last on May 22, the whole school will take the morning to hear the students present their projects, sharing all their hard work, and hopefully success! Each student is able to attend about nine project presentations in rotation. With 36 students in the program this year, it will be an exciting, jam-packed week leading up to the morning presentations on May 22nd. We look forward to seeing all the creations and growth our students have made over this last trimester at Tabor.

Please follow our blog as we begin to hear from a few of our students about their projects. Read our first blog by Lauren Dawicki here.
