Next week, Tabor will be promoting another week filled with programming around Healthy Relationships. This time, the theme and focus is centered around the One Love Foundation, a foundation created to remember Yeardley Love and the cause of her tragic death at the age of 22 at the hands of her boyfriend. The foundation is dedicated to educating young people about the signs of unhealthy relationships and celebrating how healthy relationships help people to love and support one another in all aspects of their lives.
Yeardley Love was a college lacrosse player, which is why Tabor’s Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse teams have decided to play a One Love Game on Wednesday, April 24th in an effort to support the One Love Foundation. Tabor Athletic Director, Conan Leary has ordered both teams wrist bands to wear during the game to show support. Leading up to the game, the entire week is filled with programming to truly enhance the positive message of the foundation. The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday, April 22nd:
Speak About It: A group from Bowdoin College will train 6-7 Tabor seniors to act out scenarios modeling consent and various other areas of education regarding healthy relationships. The program runs from 7:00 -8:00 PM and is mandatory for seniors.
Tuesday, April 23rd:
All School presentation about healthy relationships (hookup culture & consent)
Wednesday, April 24th:
Denim Day: Students will wear denim in recognition and support of survivors of sexual assault and violence.
One Love Lacrosse Games: Boys’ Varsity home @ 4:15 PM and Girls’ Varsity away at 3:30 PM
Thursday, April 25th:
Debrief Meeting: Discuss any topic about healthy relationships, 6-7 PM in Lyndon South
Rebecca Parente, Sophomore Class Dean, has organized the programming for the week, including the lacrosse teams’ fundraiser for One Love Foundation. The teams have already exceeded their initial goal of $2,000 and have decided to set a new goal of $3,000 with one week to go until game day. To participate, click the links below to contribute to the fundraiser and/or read more about the One Love Foundation and their mission.
Our students are excited to contribute their energy to help such a great cause while simultaneously joining with faculty and their peers to dedicate themselves to learning about the signs of unhealthy relationships and supporting healthy ones instead.
Students will have a sleep in while the faculty meets this morning. Day students are welcome to come at the usual time for breakfast, if they want. Classes will meet through the afternoon and there will be no co-curricular activities.
