Transformation to Spring Season

While many relaxed at home over spring break or traveled the world, the Tabor campus was being transformed by several departments in preparation for spring activities. The Athletics Facilities team, specifically Tom Walsh, Kenny Roussel, and Nick Cristaldi, worked tirelessly to prepare and line the athletic fields, make sure our uniforms were clean and ready, inspect and install equipment, transition the locker rooms, and so much more.

Dave Palmer, Marine Maintenance, along with Rob Hurd, Director of the Waterfront, have been hard at work to keep our fleet of boats safely afloat and in good mechanical order, including the crew shells, whalers, launches, and the 420’s and kayaks. Did you know we have over 100 boats at Tabor? The waterfront is a popular place during the spring season and Mr. Hurd and Mr. Palmer are to thank for the safety of our equipment and the rules around its safe use.

Tabor Boy recently returned from her winter maintenance at Fairhaven Shipyard, looking great and ready for another season on the bay.  And…did you hear, she is prepping for the Marion Bermuda Race! Cap Geil and crew are planning for all the provisions and trainings required in preparation for the voyage.

At last, we can’t forget the grounds crew and facilities department who have cleaned and polished floors, painted walls, washed windows, desks and carpets to put our best face forward on opening day after break. It was fun to hear the blowers firing up for the outdoor spring clean-up, including work to mulch and edge all the flower beds for their eventual display.

As the students and faculty returned to campus after spring break, conversations could be heard about how great campus and the fields look, including the nice batting cage setup on the baseball field! The drabness of winter has been swept away and everything looks fresh as we look forward to our last trimester.

Sometimes it is far too easy to overlook the unsung heroes of campus life, but it is definitely important to step back and recognize all of the hard work done in our absence. We thank all our facilities staff for all they do each and every day to keep our school and our teams running safely, efficiently, and beautifully!

It’s no secret that our campus is one of the most beautiful in New England, and that is because of those who care for it!
