Beautiful Tabor

What a week for our Tabor community! We enjoyed some terrific wins this week, highlighting and enriching our supportive community with each one.

First, there was a highly successful evening program on Tuesday evening for our girls designed by Rebecca Parente, Sophomore Class Dean, to create an ever more positive and supportive girl culture at Tabor. The program, running from 6 PM to 8 PM, continued with discussions in the dorms in order to reach those who were unable to attend. In all, over 40 girls participated.

At the same time, alumni and parent volunteers were reaching out, all over the world, to encourage participation in #TaborTime, our day of giving (actually, it’s really a day and a half of giving). At the close of the effort on Wednesday at 2:16 PM, we exceeded our goal of 1,000 donors by 228 donors! We were also able to secure a $20,000 challenge match shared mid-day designed to continue the momentum and maximize our results after we realized our donor goal early in the morning. It was wonderful to interact with so many supportive friends from afar and watch the numbers grow as we reached out through social media throughout the effort. There was so much gratitude flowing in both directions. The Tabor community is alive and well!

While #TaborTime was going on, our students were getting pumped for the NEPSAC tournaments and creating their own TaborTime memories. Our girls’ varsity teams played in basketball and hockey, and our boys played in basketball. The girls played at home and the fans were ready to show their support. Earlier in the week, student leaders declared a black out theme and encouraged the students, now done with their own athletic commitments, to show up in force….they obeyed! The atmosphere was electric with everyone having a great time cheering on the teams.

Girls’ basketball and hockey are two of our strongest teams on campus and their performance did not disappoint. Both teams commanded their games and showed incredible athleticism, endurance, and sportsmanship as they competed. They just put it all out there, and it was so inspiring. Girls’ basketball enjoyed a come from behind victory that will have them continue to compete on Sunday at Loomis. Unfortunately, girls’ hockey was defeated by Andover 2-4 despite their aggressive offense which delivered tons of pressure. The Andover defense was strong in return and their team won the day….this time! Both games were an example of two fantastic teams playing the games they love. It was beautiful to watch!

After all the excitement, we were treated to our last International Dinner featuring foods from the Middle East and the islands of Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. As was the case with the previous three, we enjoyed new flavors together, enjoying the food and the celebration of cultures within our community. The effort of our international students this month made February a great deal brighter!

As the trimester ends, we turn our focus to exams next week and Spring Break! Before we know it, we will be enjoying the waterfront and the warm sunshine together while we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our seniors at Commencement.
