Tabor Academy enjoyed Chinese New Year in style last Wednesday with a special dinner that kicked off a month-long celebration of international cuisine and cultures from some of the countries and regions represented at our school. Due to the holiday, it made sense for China and Taiwan to lead the effort.
Several Tabor families from China and Taiwan were here celebrating the Chinese New Year with their children over the February long weekend and stayed on to help our student chefs prepare a feast. Their presence certainly enhanced the celebration with everyone meeting each other, making new friends, and enjoying time together.
The menu included freshly made dumplings with different fillings, chicken wings, milk tea with tapioca, noodle dishes, spicy shrimp, lamb skewers, twice cooked pork, green beans, fried rice, and more. The decorations made the room very festive and everyone enjoyed a relaxed evening. After dinner, students were singing karaoke, using the big screen in the dining hall to display the words and music videos of their favorite musical artist. The student organizers certainly set a high bar, leaving us all excited for the remaining specialty dinners this month.
This Wednesday, we will enjoy flavors from Japan and Korea, cooked by our students and the dining hall staff. The last two Wednesdays of the month will feature Thailand and Vietnam and the Middle East & Islands. We will share more photos on social media as we go.
Please enjoy these photos…and Happy Chinese New Year!
