Sean Huang Boys' Varsity Squash: Playing his fourth and final year on Tabor’s varsity squash team, Sean Huang has built and perfected his game through long hours of practice and four seasons of competition. He has held down the #4 and #5 positions, playing in the shadow of Tabor’s nationally ranked top two players. He is the ultimate team player, giving his best each day and leading by example. On Saturday when the team faced Loomis in a match that promised to be an even contest, he did just that. Sean played smart, aggressive squash, taking a 3-0 win and earning one of the team’s points in a 4-3 victory.
Tanya Mendoza Girls' Varsity Squash: Tanya Mendoza (#6), a four year varsity player, cares about the team first. After a consistent serve that hits the side wall, she flows to the T awaiting their return like a shark. Tanya’s strokes keep her opponent moving on the court. She is a patient player because she rallies to force her opponent to give her the shot she desires. Tanya’s early racquet preparation and footwork allows her to arrive on a lunge, set her feet, and drive the ball through torsion. In competition, she uses her strong strokes to execute her signature shot, a short drive kill just inches above the tin. Tanya is a role model for the younger players on proper stroke technique. Perhaps Tanya’s most endearing quality is her interest in each player’s development on the team. She is an active participant in practice who pushes herself while helping those she plays get better.
In lieu of Prize Day this year, we will launch a webpage on 5/27 that will include a video greeting and speech from Eileen Marceau, Associate Head of School for Academic Affairs. Below that will be a brochure outlining the prizes and their winners. Several prizes will be held for distribution during the Celebration of Seniors event on May 29. After that event, all the prizes will be included in the brochure, which will be printed and mailed to prize winners as a keepsake.
Please join us at www.taboracademy.org/celebrate for a fun virtual celebration of the Class of 2020. There will be music, speeches, a walk down memory lane, awards, and more. We hope you and your friends can join us. The live stream will begin with a countdown and some student musical numbers at 9:30 AM. The program will begin at 10:00 AM.
