On Sunday January 21, Tabor students, faculty, staff, and their families, dove into frigid Sippican Harbor to raise money for our service partner, Special Olympics. This year’s plunge took place on a bright and balmy 40 degree day at Silvershell Beach in Marion. A heated tent stood shoreside waiting for participants to come inside to get warm. Members from the Marion Police, Fire, and EMS departments were on hand to make sure all involved were safe and sound.
At 11:15 a.m. all those brave enough to take the plunge removed their warm layers of cozy clothes, lined up along the water’s edge and waited for the countdown. With many anticipatory squeals, all the participants ran screaming towards the ocean. Some dove head first into the ocean while others tried to enter the water more gingerly. In the end, everyone got soaked and climbed back onto land, smiling and laughing, to enjoy their success.
Tabor was joined in this endeavor, as they were last year, by Sandwich High School students as well as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, organizations which were also supporting Special Olympics.
This year’s Polar Plunge was a great success and Tabor students and their friends raised $7,595 for a terrific organization. Please enjoy the photos from the day. Here is a fun video recap of the plunge.
