Stanley White '69
My career journey began after graduating from Tabor in 1969 and went on to Union College with a BSCE in 1973. I pursued a technical path, focusing on solving complex structural and coastal engineering challenges. This led me to MIT, where I earned two advanced degrees in Coastal Engineering (MSCE and Degree of Civil Engineer) in 1976 and published works on cooling water discharge design in Casco Bay, ME, and breakwater design under contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers. For the next five years, I delved into the world of offshore oil and gas projects, with a highlight being my involvement in designing the installation equipment for the Shell Cognac offshore oil rig, standing tall at 1,265 feet. A move back to New England brought me to New York City, where I contributed my expertise to two port and harbor consulting firms. In 1992, I took the entrepreneurial leap and founded Ocean and Coastal Consultants in Connecticut. The company flourished, expanding its reach with international projects and a growing team of skilled professionals. By 2007, we had 22 engineer/divers specializing in underwater inspections and construction management. That same year, I sold the company to a prominent Danish consultancy. During the subsequent five years, I spearheaded their US operations, overseeing a diverse portfolio of bridges, tunnels, and marine projects. In 2012, I embarked on a new chapter as an independent consultant, focusing on offshore wind projects. I secured several Department of Energy grants and served as the Principal Investigator, driving innovation in this burgeoning field. My journey led me to Diamond Offshore Wind in 2018, where I currently hold the position of Sr. VP for Engineering and Technology, with plans to fully retire in 2025. On a personal note, I met my wife Barbara during my junior year at Union, and we married after graduation. We’ve shared a wonderful 52 years together, raising three sons and enjoying our five grandchildren. We reside in Noank, CT, and spend our free time sailing our X38 from April to November, exploring the beautiful waters of New England.
