BART GULLONG ’66

Bart is featured in the book IN THE BLOOD: How Two Outsiders Solved a Centuries-Old Medical Mystery and Took on the U.S. Army. In 1999, Barton Gullong was looking for a career change and answered an ad for a business partner in the Hartford Courant, placed by Frank Hursey. Despite being polar opposites, they became improbable friends and an effective team, marketing and selling Hursey’s discovery of the mineral zeolite as an effective blood clotting agent. QuickClot was born, but faced scrutiny and obstacles along the way before becoming a multi-million dollar endeavor. The company they started out of a basement sold in 2021 for more than half a billion dollars.
