Stacy Jagodowski

This fall Boston College Women’s Ice Hockey announced that Tabor alumna Abby Newhook ’21 would be one of their captains. Going into her junior year, Newhook had a successful freshman and sophomore campaign for the Eagles. During her freshman season, she led all Hockey East first-year players in overall points (32), goals (18), and assists (15). Newhook also earned numerous accolades including Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year, serving as a finalist for WHCA National Rookie of the Year, and unanimous Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection.

This past season, Newhook was named Hockey East Third Team All-Star, Hockey East Player of the Week (November 21), and finished second on the team and ninth in Hockey East in scoring with a career-high 33 points from 19 goals and 14 assists. Her 19 goals marked a career-high, led the team, and ranked seventh in Hockey East. She tied for eighth in conference scoring (16-12-28), tied for second in Hockey East and led BC with six game-winning goals, and added four game-winning assists.

Newhook enjoyed her hockey career at Tabor, as well, saying, “My time at Tabor was very memorable because of the many people I was able to build relationships with and the way I was pushed to become a better version of myself. I absolutely loved my time at Tabor because I was able to compete on the ice alongside of so many great people while also learning how to balance my academic and athletic life. I am forever grateful for the life lessons Tabor taught me, the coaches and teammates that made Tabor hockey an amazing team to be a part of and the faculty that supported us every day.”

She had a heralded career at Tabor, including being named captain her senior year, which was cancelled due to COVID. As a junior, Newhook was named First Team All-NEPSAC in 2019-2020 after recording 44 points on 23 goals and 21 assists in 26 games. Her sophomore year she was Second Team All-NEPSAC. Her Tabor teams were two-time Taft Tournament champions, as well. She took advantage of every season at Tabor playing soccer, softball, and lacrosse throughout her time at the School by the Sea.

Head Girl’s Ice Hockey Coach Eric Long has always been impressed with Newhook stating, “Abby came to Tabor as a highly touted 10th grader who made an immediate impact on and off the ice. Her commitment and focus left a lasting example for the younger players on the team that is still present today. It’s great to see Abby continue to excel as a player and leader at BC and on the international stage as well.”
