Girls Track & Field Repeat as Division 2 New England Champions
Molly Rodenbush

During the last weekend in May, the Tabor Girls Track & Field team captured their second consecutive New England Championship in dominant fashion at the Williston Northampton School. They ended the meet with 142 points, with their closest competitor earning 61. Tabor won five events and had strong performances in many others. Every single Tabor competitor placed in the top six in at least one event.

Ayla Sahin ’24 (pictured above) had an incredible day. She won the 100 meters high hurdles, 200 meter dash, and was part of the championship 4x100 relay team with Sarah Adams ’24, Ava Lomberto ’24, Catherine Parks ’23. The relay team ran a new school record of 48.74 seconds which qualifies them for the New Balance Nationals championship race, according to Coach Chris Adams. Sahin also had success in the ISL Championships where she was named MVP for the Track competitors. Recently, she was named Most Outstanding Female Athlete for New England’s and earned Boston Herald All-Scholastic.

Tabor also took the top two spots for the high jump. Katie Jackivicz ’26 won the event with Nicole Joffe ’23 coming in second.

Senior Bradley Weldon ’23 capped off a very successful career at Tabor. She won the 3000 meter in the New England and ISL meets, shaving off over 20 seconds in New England’s from her ISL Championship time the week prior. This was the second year in a row Weldon was the New England champion in the 3000.

There were numerous strong performances at the meet. Tess Adams ’26 earned points in the Discus (2nd), Javelin (3rd), and Shot Put (4th). Pole vault was a great event with Phoebe Grimm ’26 and Campbell Strong ’26 placing second and third. Ava Lomberto ’24 placed second in the 400 and fourth in the 200, along with her team events placing first in the 4x1 and third in the 4x4.

The boys 4x100 relay team also captured the gold at the New England Championship with a school record time of 42.85 seconds. The boys 4x100 relay team includes Keenan Dewberry ’24, Julian Grant ’24, Belal Khadry ’23, and Flynt Whitworth ’23. Tabor Track continues to break school records, and we look forward to cheering them on next season!
