Milestones

How do you capture 150 years? How do you honor 50 years of a magazine that has chronicled so much life, so many stories, so many moments that matter?

You don’t. Not in a single letter, anyway. Instead, you step back and look at what connects it all.

Stories. That’s what I keep coming back to.

Not just the literal story of how Tabor was started—though I do think about Elizabeth Taber (or Tabor, as history is revealing) in 1876, imagining and creating something that didn’t exist yet. A place where young people could learn and grow and become themselves. That took vision. That took a belief in something bigger than what she could see in front of her.

I’m also thinking about the myriad other stories that surround us daily. The kind we don’t always notice because they’re just there, happening quietly. Traditions that shape us.

Teachers who see something in students before they see it in themselves. The alumni who come back, year after year, because this place still feels like home.

In this issue, you’ll find some of those stories from our history that might surprise you. Faces and moments that helped build what Tabor is today. And you’ll see how our narrative keeps growing—every class, every student, every moment becomes part of the larger tale that we are all writing, together.

Anniversaries aren’t just about looking back—though we absolutely should, and with gratitude. They are also about recognizing that our story continues. That what came before gives meaning to what comes next. That the work of living and sharing these stories never really stops.

So here we are. One hundred and fifty years of Tabor. Fifty years of this magazine. And somehow, it feels like we’re just getting started.

Thank you for being part of our story. For reading, for sharing your own memories, for staying connected to this place and to each other. That’s what makes Tabor special.

Please note: We acknowledge that history is complex, and there may be instances in which we do not have the full story or include every Tabor constituent related to a single topic in one issue. We welcome and encourage alumni to share their stories and knowledge of Tabor with us. We’re excited to hear from you. Contact us at magazine@taboracademy.org.
