Information for Tabor Families

Tabor hosts several events throughout the year to bring the school and families together, both on campus and virtual.

• Fall and Winter Family Weekends provide opportunities to watch sporting events, catch a theater performance, and meet your student’s advisor. 
• Tabor Day and Seawolf Saturday bring the entire Tabor community back to the campus for a spirited day of athletic contests and outdoor festivities.
• Regional Tabor events are a great way to meet fellow parents and Tabor alumni in your area.
• Seawolf Stop receptions are held before each break where you can catch up with administrators, faculty, and staff in a relaxing environment while grabbing a bite to eat.
• Parents Association meetings are held periodically and are often virtual or hybrid in-person/virtual to allow as many parents and guardians to join as possible.
• Virtual events, including the State of the School, will keep you up-to-date and informed on all things Tabor.
• Countless student athletic contests, concerts, plays, art exhibitions, and community events are always great ways to visit.
• And much, much more!

Every Tabor parent and/or legal guardian is a member of the Tabor Parents Association. This inclusive group seeks to foster connections between students, parents, guardians, and the school. Throughout the year, there are regular virtual and in-person meetings, events, and volunteer opportunities for all parents and guardians to engage with Tabor and one another. Whether you are interested in a leadership role or want to join at your leisure, we welcome your excitement and involvement in the school and the parent community. Reach out to learn more.

Tabor offers different ways for parents and guardians to volunteer, both on and off campus. Volunteering is a great way to build relationships with other Tabor families and to get to know the school and Tabor community more intimately. Any parent or guardian can become a volunteer and each volunteer, with guidance from the Office of Parent Engagement, helps shape the student experience.  Below are areas in which you can become involved with the school community. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, please reach out to Sarah Connelly Pladsen, Alumni and Parent Engagement Officer, at spladsen@taboracademy.org  These opportunities serve to strengthen the community as a whole and enrich both the parent and student experience. 

• Admissions – Help greet new families in the Living Room, attend open houses and key events like Revisit Days, reach out to accepted families each spring and summer, and more. 
• Student and Community Activities – Volunteer for special events and programming for our students, faculty, and staff – it's a great way to experience campus life in action. A few examples include the Halloween Fun Run, Valentine's Day, Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, and Senior Spring activities.
• Fund for Tabor and Day of Giving – Partner with the Advancement team to serve as a philanthropic ambassador for Tabor and help the school increase annual participation among current parents in the Fund for Tabor. 
• Co-Curricular Volunteer – Whether your student is part of an athletic team or an arts program, there are numerous opportunities to support current Seawolves throughout their co-curricular activities.   
• Community Service – Participate in our Community Service programs as opportunities arise locally and regionally throughout the year. 
• Host International Students – Support our international students and families by inviting them to join you at off-campus activities and serving as a friend and guide while they are far from home.
• Tabor Marketing Ambassador – Partner with our Strategic Marketing & Communications team to tell the story of Tabor Academy and share the great things that happen. If you’re active on social media, enjoy writing, or are a great photographer or videographer, this is your chance to have a creative contribution.
• Host an Event – Host a gathering of parents, alumni, and friends at a location of your choice to help bring the extended Tabor community together. 

These opportunities serve to strengthen the community as a whole and enrich both the parent and student experience.

We recognize that distance makes it challenging for your family to get involved in the life of the school on a regular basis. There are opportunities for families around the globe to host in-country parent, alumni, and prospective family events and we welcome your participation in these gatherings. The Fund for Tabor allows our community, especially parents, to collectively support the school, its students and faculty, and the many academic and co-curricular programs that constitute the Tabor experience. A robust annual fund allows Tabor to think beyond its day-to-day finances and dream big. When you make a gift to the Fund for Tabor, you provide a dependable and essential foundation of support that allows the school to respond to immediate needs and emerging opportunities, educate a diverse community of learners, underwrite professional development for our talented faculty, maintain state-of-the-art athletic and co-curricular facilities, and so much more. 
 
Tabor’s goal is to achieve 100 percent participation from current parents, and we need your partnership. A member of the Advancement team or a fellow Tabor parent will be in touch during the year, and we ask you to consider a meaningful gift. Participation is so important—every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference to our school community.

Gifts to capital campaigns are typically fixed multi-year commitments to help fund significant strategic goals and large capital projects, such as the new Travis Roy Campus Center. Typically, capital campaign gifts are over and above, or in some cases, inclusive of your gift to the Fund for Tabor. Tabor’s Parent Advancement Council (PAC) is comprised of parents and guardians who contribute $5,000 or more to the school each year and are dedicated to Tabor Academy’s future. Members of the PAC are invited to key events, attend and participate in strategic meetings two to three times a year, act as ambassadors for Tabor, and work with the Advancement office on fundraising, engagement, and appreciation efforts. The commitment and philanthropic support that our PAC families provide helps shape the institution and supports our Seawolves today and in the future.

It is hard to believe that on June 2, 2023, we will celebrate the Class of 2023! Families of current seniors will be asked to honor their student’s legacy by making a capstone gift to the school. Our hope is that each Class of 2023 family will consider making their best gift this year to commemorate their Seawolf’s time at Tabor.
