Future of Cybersecurity 

It’s not an overstatement to say that cybersecurity is one of the fundamental issues of our time. From social engineering to ransomware to DDoS attacks to third-party software to cloud computing vulnerabilities, cybercrime has become a multi-billion-dollar business, and to neutralize this ever-growing threat, global cybersecurity spending is expected to exceed one trillion dollars in 2021. As more and more of our personal lives and business activities are conducted online, understanding the future of cybersecurity will show us how to make the best use of our resources and stay safe from future attacks. We are pleased that Alex Lanstein '03, will examine the state of cybersecurity, predict what hackers will possibly do next, and provide thoughts on best practices, both personally and professionally.

Senior Director, FireEye, Inc.

A senior director at FireEye, Inc., a cybersecurity company, Alex helps guide a wide variety of internal efforts, including security research, go-to-market strategy, and product development. Over his 14 years at FireEye, Alex has had a front-row seat to the evolving cyber threat landscape, which has helped take the company from zero revenue to a multi-billion-dollar valuation. He has worked to battle cybercrime, espionage, and attackers who have hacked everything from power grids to democracies. Alex has supported the United States intelligence community, as well as dozens of partner nations to bolster their cyber defenses.

Alex received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Connecticut College.

Alex and his wife, Emily Schnure '04, live in South Boston with their daughter, Alice. Alice's sister is on the way this summer!
