David "Dave" Barker '72 was a three-sport varsity athlete at Tabor Academy, earning nine varsity letters in football, wrestling and lacrosse. He was a leader for Tabor athletics, serving as captain of the 1971 football team and the 1972 lacrosse team. Dave's athletic achievements were only a fraction of his contributions to the Tabor community as a whole. Dave was the embodiment of a Tabor student-athlete through his commitment to sportsmanship, leadership and academic excellence. Dave excelled in the classroom, receiving high honors, mentoring young students as a dorm proctor and contributing to the Tabor Log with his column "Barker on Sports."

After Tabor, Dave attended Bowdoin College, where his love of sports and leadership
continued. Dave competed in varsity football, wrestling and lacrosse and was captain of both
the wrestling and lacrosse teams. Outside of his playing career (which lasted well into his 50's),
Dave established vouth lacrosse programs in Fairfax Countv, VA and in Brunswick, ME. In 1996, Dave received the SGMA Heroes Award for "involvement and long term impact on sporting life of the community."
