Connie Deneault ’64, a native of New Bedford, MA, came to Tabor Academy in 1960 while still playing as a key member of the New Bedford Pony League All-Star Baseball Team (the team went on to play in the Pony League World Series). Connie immediately distinguished himself in sports, making the varsity football and baseball teams as a freshman. He went on to earn nine varsity letters and was named captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams his senior year. That year, the 1963 Tabor Football Team went undefeated and Connie was selected as quarterback for the First Team, All-New England Prep Football. In addition to athletics, Connie was very active in the Tabor community: Freshman Hall Proctor, Student Council, Robat Club, French Club, and Color Guard Captain.
Following Tabor, Connie attended the University of Missouri (Mizzou) on a football scholarship. As starting quarterback his freshman year, Connie led the football team to a successful season and in 1965, the team (ranked sixth in the country) went on to defeat the Florida Gators in the Sugar Bowl. His junior year, Connie also played baseball and had three opportunities to professionally sign with the Orioles, Red Sox, and Reds, but each time he declined, choosing to stay in college instead.
Connie went on to join the Army Reserves as a Private and was quickly promoted to First Lieutenant. After forty years in leadership, he retired from State Farm Insurance. Connie has always believed in giving back and did so through coaching youth sports, serving as President of his church athletic association, and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Currently he is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Connie and his wife Gigi live in St. Petersburg, FL.
