To this day, the Tabor Academy 1971 Varsity Boys' Hockey Team is the only undefeated boys' hockey team in Tabor's history. Under the leadership of Coach Lucien Lavoie, this team played in an era before New England championships and indoor hockey rinks. They had grit and determination--characteristics that made the team ultimately unbeatable. They worked together to achieve success and, even today, every member of the team will say there was no standout player who took all the glory. The players supported each other to achieve greatness and won as a team. Through the course of the season, every member of the 1971 Varsity Boys' Hockey Team made a critical contribution that allowed the team to remain undefeated. The team won games by both wide and narrow margins, they came from behind and won with comfortable leads. No matter the competition, they always represented Tabor well. This team was comprised of more than just skilled hockey players, they were student athletes of Tabor Academy who believed in the true meaning of sportsmanship. Their competitive nature, class, and commitment to each other led them to greatness and an undefeated hockey season for Tabor Academy.
