Class of 2020

The 2020 class of inductees was nominated by members of the Tabor community, and selected by the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee. The committee was comprised of alumni, current and former faculty, and coaches. This year's class of inductees includes three individuals, two coaches and one team, spanning the classes from 1947 to 1985.

  • Spencer E. Gray ’57

    Tennis • Basketball • Soccer

    Spencer Gray ’57, a native of Marion, Massachusetts, was an exceptional varsity competitor and leader at Tabor Academy, excelling in soccer, basketball, and tennis. During his Tabor athletic career, Spencer was awarded ten varsity letters. He was the goaltender on the soccer team, forward on the basketball team, and the tennis team’s top player. Spencer captained the tennis and basketball teams his senior year.

  • Jean L. Roy ’80

    Hockey • Soccer • Golf

    Jean L. Roy ’80, a native of Lewiston, Maine, was a remarkable ice hockey player before arriving at Tabor Academy in the fall of 1978. A first-team all-state selection at St. Dominic’s High School, Jean was a two-time hockey MVP in 1979 and 1980, and he captained the varsity hockey and soccer teams during his senior year. An outstanding three-sport varsity athlete in soccer, hockey, and golf, Jean’s athletic prowess on the ice was unmatched. He still holds the school record of 102 points in 40 games.

  • Loren Milhench le Gassick ’85

    Girls’ Varsity: Golf • Squash

    Loren Milhench le Gassick ’85, a native of Marion, Massachusetts, came to Tabor Academy in 1981 and was a pioneer in female athletics during the reintroduction of coeducation. Loren was a two-sport varsity athlete, excelling in squash and golf. Loren’s golf career is where she distinguished herself in Tabor’s athletic program.

  • Roderick Beebe

    Coach 1923–1960: Crew • Football

    Roderick Beebe was a three-sport athlete at Yale and coached at Camp Pasquaney in New Hampshire before he relocated to the shores of Sippican Harbor to take over Tabor’s fledgling crew program in 1922. He joined the faculty as a history and math teacher, as well as coach of the football and crew teams. Although crew became his forte and first love, Mr. Beebe coached almost every sport the school offered during his nearly forty-year tenure at Tabor. In addition to coaching and teaching, Mr. Beebe also served as Tabor’s director of buildings and grounds, assistant to the headmaster, and athletic director.

  • G. Bruce Cobbold

    Coach 1966–1988: Cross Country • Track • Girls’ Crew

    G. Bruce Cobbold earned his BA and MA at the University of Cambridge, where he read Classics and rowed for Gonville & Caius College. After spending seven years learning the art of teaching in his native England, Mr. Cobbold arrived in the United States in 1964 as part of an exchange program between his private school and Phillips Academy Andover. Two years later, he arrived on the shores of Sippican Harbor to teach Latin and Greek. During his forty-eight-year tenure at Tabor, Mr. Cobbold served as a Classics teacher, coach, drama club director, chair of the Classics department, coordinator of academic affairs, director of studies, assistant headmaster, acting headmaster, and senior master. He retired in 2014.
