Sing your Heart Out!

Tabor Academy’s choristers swell the ranks of six different choral ensembles from the entry-level training chorus to the select Madrigal Singers. Tabor's choral musicians audition for and perform at the Southeastern District, Massachusetts All-State and All-Eastern Music Festivals. They study voice and perform in solo recitals, choral concerts, school meetings and chapel. They sing any time the community gathers for reflection or celebration, and a thriving Open Mic Night, open to all students, allows anyone who likes to sing to show their talents across many different genres. Tabor Academy’s Choral Music Program is diverse, challenging, and growing.

  • Choral Groups

The Mixed Chorus is for students new to Tabor, new to singing, or just looking to be part of a large, mixed ensemble that performs everything from Handel to the Beatles.

The Madrigal Singers is a select, mixed group of highly skilled musicians available by audition in the spring. The Madrigal Singers master a cappella classical repertoire as well as contemporary jazz and popular arrangements of note. Emphasis is on vocal and tonal balance and spontaneity of musical expression. They perform regularly at Tabor.
  • Private Vocal Instruction

There are over twenty students currently enrolled in private vocal instruction studying tone production, vocal placement, support, and musicianship. Students are encouraged to perform at one of the three annual music recitals.
  • Musicianship

A comprehensive theory and musicianship class, Basic Musicianship is open to any student who is serious about improving as a musician. Advanced Musicianship is open to any student who has taken Basic Musicianship or has the consent of the instructor.

Digital Music Studio is also a popular offering.
  • Applied Music Program

Although not limited exclusively to vocal music, Tabor Academy’s Applied Music Program offers a unique opportunity for vocalists and instrumentalists to practice their art intensively culminating in one of three annual recitals. Recitalists must be studying privately to enroll.

Performance Venues

Whether for Senior Convocation, Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Veterans or Memorial Day, the Chapel Program is served by Tabor Academy’s choral groups and soloists. All-School Meeting on Tuesdays offers another weekly opportunity for vocal ensembles and solo performers to present themselves to the community. Finally, the more casual open mic nights are popular with our musicians.

Lessons and Carols, a traditional holiday worship service, features all our choral ensembles throughout the service and is our largest choral concert each year. Additionally, the Mixed Chorus presents with the Wind Ensemble and the String Ensemble at the evening Spring Concert for the entire school community, a highlight of the season.

The Madrigal Singers perform annually in Wickenden Chapel.
