So...You can dance?!

Serving both novice and experienced dancers, the dance program at Tabor offers students solid dance training and opportunities to nurture creativity, develop community, and practice effective leadership. Students may elect to take dance as their afternoon sport or activity during the fall and spring terms. Dance meets five times per week for one hour and a half each day. Students learn and train in all forms of dance from ballet to hip hop. Fall and spring seasons end in popular and well attended recitals featuring group and individually choreographed routines. Private lessons are also available.

Students who take spring dance become part of Tabor’s Competitive Dance Team. In past years, the Dance Team has been very competitive, earning gold and platinum awards. Last year, the team won awards in teamwork and high overall scores for their contemporary dance routine. In 2017, the team went to Starpower in Rhode Island and won high scores overall, securing a place in the world championship in New Jersey with our hip hop routine.

Other Opportunities for Dance

Students may become involved in dance in other ways at Tabor. Choreography is a major part of the winter musical, and students are selected to be Dance Captains for that show. Also, students sometimes choreograph “pocket” musicals for the Will Parker Black Box Theater. We have performed: Little Shop of Horrors, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and See Rock City.

Finally, students may take private lessons during the academic day, and often design a senior project around dance and original choreography.
