Tabor Academy Alumnus Jaycob Megna Wins Stanley Cup with Florida Panthers
Jaycob Megna ’11 has added to Tabor Academy’s proud hockey legacy by winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers this season — matching his brother Jayson Megna ’09 and giving the Tabor community another champion to cheer for.
A standout defenseman during the 2008–2009 season for the Tabor Seawolves Boys Varsity Hockey team, Jaycob left Tabor Academy to play junior hockey in the USHL, setting the stage for a successful collegiate and professional career.
Tabor Head Boys Hockey Coach Gerry Dineen recalls coaching both Megna brothers together: “Jaycob was the youngest player on our team that year, yet he carried himself with humility and determination. He had an exceptional hockey IQ, vision, and stick skills that allowed him to compete with older players — but beyond that, he was a terrific member of the Tabor community.”
Drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Jaycob Megna has since suited up for the Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, Chicago Blackhawks, and now the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
Before turning pro, Jaycob played Division I college hockey at the University of Nebraska Omaha, where he again shared the ice with his brother Jayson Megna ’09 during the 2011–2012 season.
Reflecting on his time at Tabor Academy, Jaycob shares, “The year I spent at Tabor with my brother was the best and most memorable year of school I ever had. It’s an experience I’ll never forget and one I’ll always be thankful for.”
