About the Position:

The Tabor Academy Groundskeeper performs semi-skilled labor to clean, repair, improve, treat and 
maintain Tabor Academy’s turf, shrubs, trees, flower beds, grounds and fields while also providing physical support for the setup and dismantling of material and equipment for various scheduled and special events throughout the year. The individual in this position must work collaboratively with the Facilities Services team and have a customer service orientation to working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Department/Office: Plant Operations
Reports to: Groundskeeper Supervisor
Status & Schedule: Full-time Staff, Non-Exempt; 40 hours per week

Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Cultivates, maintains, repairs and restores turf, athletic fields and trees through mowing, weeding, raking, aerating, de-thatching, seeding, mulching, pruning, fertilizing and other similar activities; observes, inspects and maintains campus irrigation systems.
  • Transports, moves, loads, sets up and dismantles tables, chairs, platforms, materials and equipment in support of various events; hand picks, gathers, collects, loads and transports litter/debris from and about the Academy grounds.
  • Participates in snow removal activities; drives vehicles and equipment with snow plows, brushes, blowers, salt/sand spreaders and shovels.
  • Performs daily tasks assigned by the Groundskeeper Supervisor to provide a clean, and safe environment for the faculty, staff and students.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Experience working in landscaping or horticulture field
  • Ability to working independently or part of a team

Physical Setting: Campus environment with multiple types of buildings

Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm, some weekend work required

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing, walking, stretching, bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs or 80lbs with equipment. 
  • Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
