Athletic Facilities Associate

About the Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, including the Travis Roy Ice Rink. Additionally, the position is responsible for setting up spaces for auxiliary events. In both capacities, the expectation is to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for the Tabor community and visitors.

This is a full time, non-exempt position.

Reports to: Director of Athletics

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
  • Maintain the upkeep of athletic buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Contact appropriate agents when maintenance needs are beyond the scope of in-house capabilities.
  • Operate the ice resurfacer machine (Zamboni) safely on and off the ice; ensure excellent ice quality and proper functioning of operational equipment.
  • Keep all areas of the rink neat, clean, and safe, ensuring sanitary and safe internal and external facility spaces.
  • Monitor building security, maintenance, and custodial duties, including trash removal and cleaning of restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Understand and implement safety measures with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential safety risks; exercise sound judgment in all responsibilities.
  • Communicate with local officials and/or management regarding rink safety and operations.
  • Assist in responding to alarms.
  • Assist with rink attendant scheduling and oversee the opening and closing of the rink as needed.
  • Ensure all entrances are clear of debris and snow, maintaining safe access points.
  • Enforce policies and rules to ensure guest safety, intervening when public safety concerns arise.
  • Work with vendors, as directed by the Athletics Director, to ensure the facility has the necessary supplies and equipment for efficient operation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Assistant Director of Athletics

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience: Familiarity with rink operations, customer service experience, and working with the public in a school environment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to prepare and think proactively when situations arise; recognize potential problems and address them with management.
  • Customer Service and Communication: Maintain a positive and active role at the rink, even under potentially stressful conditions such as inclement weather, injured participants, or unruly guests.
  • Teamwork: Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate closely with the Athletics Department and other departments throughout the school.
  • Flexibility: Schedule will vary based on athletic competitions, games, and tournaments; evening and weekend shifts are required during the academic year.
  • Physical Requirements: Full mobility is required, including the ability to lift items up to 100 lbs., climb, reach, bend, pull, and lift. Some work will be performed on slippery surfaces and in varying environments, including warm and cold temperatures.

Schedule: 40 hours per week
