Oceans I * (Recommended for students new to the studies of oceans.)
Do you love exploring the ocean? Discover your aquatic neighbors by visiting different marine settings close to campus. Get your hands and feet wet as you identify, collect, and then observe the plants and animals in the Marine and Nautical Science Center’s giant touch tank.
Oceans II * (Recommended for Ages 10 and up) 4 options to select from this summer.
A Whale of a time!!
Would you like to learn more about the mammals, including dolphins, whales, and seals, that live in our oceans? Find out how these amazing creatures communicate, travel, and survive in the world’s waters. Come and explore their world.
Sharks, Rays and Skates. Oh my!
Why do sharks have such rough skin? How are sharks and rays alike? Are all sharks dangerous? Come sink your teeth into learning more about these special type of fish.
Go Fish!!
What makes a fish a fish? How do fish drink? Take a closer look at fish from the inside and outside. Try your hand at fishing and learn about the fishery business
Aquaculture
Learn how to spawn and raise shellfish. Visit local shellfish fisheries to see how they raise their young! Set up and care for your own aquaculture project.
Oceans III *
(For the more experienced marine scientist, 14+, all morning or afternoon)
Would you like to seek out even more oceanic knowledge? Explore various oceanographic topics by creating your own independent research project. Learn about marine related careers by speaking with scientists and engineers who work with the ocean everyday.
*On Fridays all Oceanography students participate in field trips, which include whale watches, aquariums, and visits to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, the Marine Biological Labs and other local destinations of interest to the marine sciences.
