Weekends are an important time at Tabor. About one third of our weekends are “closed”. This means that boarding student may not sign out to leave campus for the weekend. Typically, but not always, these closed weekends coincide with Saturday class mornings. Closed weekends, when we have the entire boarding population on campus, plus any day students that return, are opportunities to schedule more elaborate weekend activities. Open weekends, when some boarding student might find the time to return home, are more often reserved for the smaller activities. But most importantly, there is always something to do on campus, and we would direct you to the daily bulletin, to find out what is going on this weekend. A general theme is that there is something scheduled for on-campus either Friday or Saturday, and then there is an off-campus trip scheduled most Sundays.
While scheduling a variety of weekend activities is significant to creating a vibrant boarding experience, experience tells us that the most successful boarding students are those who take advantage of these activities but also discover that creating their own fun is an important skill to develop. The slower pace of weekend life on campus lends itself to sleeping in, getting ahead on assignments, hanging out with friends, having a leisurely brunch. Students also take advantage of our facilities by getting in a workout, having a friendly pick up game of basketball or tennis, taking a walk down to the beach, or going for a sail when the weather is right.
