Vacation Travel Services
It is expected that parents will be responsible for arranging air travel reservations and other transportation for their children, while making certain that departures and arrivals fit within the academic schedule.
Tabor provides shuttle service, at a reasonable cost, to both Logan and T.F. Green Airports and Providence's AMTRAK station for students whose travel schedules correspond with the school's drop-off and pick-up times.
School departure time is approximately 12:45 p.m. on the day of vacation. This means that no flights should be booked earlier than 4:00 p.m. in Boston and before 3:30 p.m. for Providence.
On the day that vacation ends, return transportation from Boston takes place at 7:00 p.m. and is located at the lower level of Terminal B (USAIR baggage area side ONLY). For those needing accommodations from Providence, please book your flights to return before 6:00 p.m. in order to accommodate the AMTRAK schedule. Generally speaking, the school meets the AMTRAK train that arrives closest to 6:00 p.m. (but is not an ACELA train). PLEASE CHECK WITH MS. BURNS IN THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFICE BEFORE BOOKING AN AMTRAK TRAIN SINCE THEIR SCHEDULE MAY CHANGE FROM SEASON TO SEASON.
In light of the increasingly complex logistics of travel, the importance of planning early and well for how our students will get to the airport, train, or bus is very crucial. Your son or daughter needs to know this information as soon as possible, and needs to communicate plans to the school so that the transportation vehicles can be booked accordingly. In such cases, there is very little flexibility in the number of seats available in a school van. As a result, late or last minute requests to utilize school transportation may not be accommodated.
The DEADLINE to sign up for Tabor transportation with Ms. Burns in the Student Activities Office is approximately one week ahead of the vacation. Students are given this deadline in announcements and Daily Bulletins at least 2-3 weeks ahead of the vacation. When your child signs up for Tabor transportation, it is important to have his/her itinerary in hand at that time.
If students are planning to fly to and from school and are not yet 15 years old, please check with the airline regarding their escort requirements and notify Ms. Burns in the Student Activities Office at least two weeks prior to the flight date that an escort will be needed.
Information about reliable (independent) van services is available below, as well as in the "Welcome to Tabor" booklet. You may need to contact one of these companies if your child is travelling at a time when Tabor transportation is not provided or if your child's flight is missed or delayed.
If you have further questions, please contact Heather Burns in the Student Activities Office at 508-748-2000, ext. 2233.
