The school by the sea - Tabor Academy is the true national leader in sea-going programs, but it is the spirit of human beings in relationships to the sea that truly permeates the campus. All our students live by the sea, feel its daily rhythms, sense its presence and its changing moods. All our students understand that our corner of the sea brings us into both literal and spiritual connection with our planet.
Large school’s program with a small school’s humanity - Our rich curriculum, varied co-curricular options, beautiful facilities, and genuinely diverse student body are what one expects in a school of nearly 500 students. Our small classes, intimate dormitory settings, close faculty/student relationships, multiple teams, artistic and musical groups, and deep friendships are what one expects in a small, tightly knit community.
Faculty that balances high standards with genuine affection for students - Our faculty aims both to help our students achieve at the highest, objective standards in the Arts, English, Languages, Sciences, Mathematics, the Classics, and History. Simultaneously, the faculty reaches out to students at their own, individual level. Effectively balancing the two, objective and individual achievement, is the sign of a great teacher.
Student body of serious purpose, diverse perspectives and experience, and a commitment to doing its best - We all need the support encouragement, and example of peers who care about us, who want us to do our best, and who will set high standards for us by their own commitments. Tabor students support each other in their friendships and in their own, individual commitments.
Curriculum without an end point - With ability-level scheduling, honors and Advanced Placement courses, independent and advanced study options, a senior elective program, and Senior Projects, it is possible to achieve a college-level curriculum in every discipline.
Uniquely and personally balanced academic, artistic, and athletic experience - Tabor’s program requires each student to participate in academic, artistic, athletic, and personal development, but the balance each student strikes among these is unique. Some may spend three seasons in varsity athletics, some one season in a competitive sport and two seasons in music or drama or art, and some may do rigorous academic work and community service. There is no “single model” for the balances that Tabor students strike; rather, there are 490 models, all with similar features, but none quite the same.
Extraordinary facilities - Tabor’s academic, artistic, athletic, and residential facilities alongside its unique seaside location provide a wealth of opportunities from football to photography, from oceanography to one-act plays, from vocal music to Vector Calculus. Our facilities provide venues for achievement in every area.
College and university success - Every year over 90% of our seniors are accepted to one of their top three school choices. Their level of preparation for a post-secondary school, their record of achievement in college, and their success beyond college all testify to the exceptional value of a Tabor education.
Rigor and support - Each course, team, and artistic group or activity at Tabor is characterized by two qualities: rigor and support. Tabor’s requirements are vigorous and demanding, but we believe that achievement at all levels, from the most elementary to the most advanced, requires not only long hours of hard work on the part of each student, but also genuine support and enthusiasm from our faculty.
Distinctive programs found nowhere else - The Tabor Boy, the Caribbean Studies Program, the Marine Science Curriculum, 7:30 Extra Help, Polar Bear Club, Sunday in a Kayak, the town of Marion as our campus, New England Whaling Course, Celestial Navigation, Naval Honor School (one of three in the country), more graduates at The United States Naval Academy than any high school in the country, New Student Orientation at Sea, Super Spooky Squash Courts, faculty summer stipend program … the list of unique programs at Tabor is long. Their purpose? Our students and faculty are unique, and the programs that serve them will be unique as well.
