CLOTHING; DRESS CODE

Tabor Academy requires a neat and clean appearance at all times as well as professional and proper dress during the academic day.  Informal dress after the academic day, on weekends and at other free times is expected to be neat, clean and tasteful, while at the same time allowing for comfort and individuality.  Please refer to the dress code section of Life at Tabor for more detailed explanations.

The formal dress code for boys: : Sport coat or blazer with dress slacks (or tailored shorts in warm weather), dress shirt and tie, belt, socks and dress shoes.

The formal dress code for girls:    Either (1) dress or skirt (no culottes) and blouse / sweater / turtleneck, or (2) dress slacks (slacks must have pockets set-in; no rivets) with a blouse or collared shirt and blazer, shoes or dress boots. Capri pants and “pedal-pushers” are not part of the approved formal dress code.  Dresses or skirts must be knee-length.  This means, the lower hem of the skirt or dress must touch or cover a portion of the knee when you are standing.  If a girl elects to wear slacks, she must also wear the Tabor Blazer.  The Tabor Blazer may be purchased from The Blazer Depot (1-888-322-7469; blazerdepot.com).  It may be either of four styles: the Classic, the Windsor, the Madison or the Park Avenue style and it may be any of the colors or fabrics offered by The Blazer Depot.

For both boys and girls:  Shirts must have a collar and shirttails must be tucked in.  Blazers must be worn, not carried, during the entirety of the academic day. Sneakers, thongs, shower flip-flops, work boots, Birkenstocks, hiking boots and athletic shoes are not permitted.  Boots and rubber boat shoes are acceptable only in foul weather.  Denim jackets and jeans, t-shirts, tank tops, cargo pants, and mock turtlenecks are not part of the formal dress code. In addition, hats, kerchiefs, and bandanas (intended for use as headwear) are prohibited for both boys and girls, as part of formal dress code.
